    Toyota Supra RZ (FR / 8AT) / Supra SZ-R (FR / 8AT) / Supra SZ (FR / 8AT)

There is no blurring in the character

The next ride was the “RZ” (6.9 million yen). It is an image leader equipped with a 3-liter 6-cylinder turbo that boasts 340ps and 500Nm.

0-100km / h in 4.3 seconds. Not inferior to any European supersport. Because of its power, it gives off a “big feeling” from the moment it starts moving, but the basic character seems to be not much different from the Supra SZ-R. I don’t have the impression that the nose is particularly heavy. Riding comfort is not a sacrifice of power.

Both 6-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines are widely used in BMW today, but the computer software that controls the powertrain, including the ZF 8-speed AT, is Toyota’s original.

BMW’s drive mode includes normal and sports, as well as comfort and ECO PRO, but Supra is normal and sports only. Switching is as simple as pressing the SPORT button to turn it on and pressing it again to turn it off (normal). It can be said that he did not spend extra money. He said he didn’t change the layout of the left turn signal because he wanted to avoid cost increases.

The last “SZ” (4.9 million yen) is a low-tune model with a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo. However, it is 197ps. The vehicle weight (1410kg) is 40kg lighter than the SZ-R and 110kg lighter than the RZ. It made me think that it was a 17-inch lightweight Supra !? But when I switched from the RZ, the power was a little unsatisfactory.

I want to take a closer look

The most striking thing about this short impression, which was only on ordinary roads, was that the new Supra had almost no BMW scent. It happened that the “BMW X2 M35i” was on the round trip to the test drive venue on that day. Although it is a FF platform, the 2-liter engine is basically the same as the Supra SZ-R.

Compared to that BMW, the Supra was more like a Toyota 86 than a BMW. I think it could have become a “Toyota sports car” beyond the 86. It may be a shame for those who were looking for a BMW look.

But after all, it was a choi ride, so I can’t say anything definite. So I want to take a closer look. There is no doubt that it was a car that made me want to take a closer look.

The sports car, a niche in the automobile world, is therefore difficult to establish by one manufacturer’s independent development. When the predecessor 80 Supra was discontinued in 2002, it was explained that the reason was exhaust gas measures. Sports cars, which have left the market because high-performance turbo cars are no longer available, have revived in collaboration beyond rivals, now that they demand much cleaner exhaust. First of all, congratulations.

Was hesitant at first to transfer the deposit for the car, but as it turned out it my worries were unwarranted. Thank you for you honest and genuine experience. Definitely will be buying more cars through you!

In 2019 we bought the first car and it came after two and a half month as planned. Now we are waiting for the fifth and sixth delivery of cars and motorcycles, in total we have bought 12 cars and were not dissatisfied with any of them. Full support with good pictures and documentation on the cars before the auctions have started. After we won the auction, TokyoCarz has directly arranged good logistics with shipping both with RoRo and container directly to us in Sweden. Many thanks for a well done job and we will continue cooperating with you for several years to come. / Anders

It is hard to know who to bid at Japan car auctioneers with. I tried TokyoCarZ when I was travelling overseas. I must admit I was nervous. They made my experience easy and went above and beyond for me. I have since bid with confidence multiple times as they earned my trust.A++++ experience. - Marcus
